Good Day to all judges and fellow contestant. This fine day I would like to tell a story a title of “A highly ambitious rural boy who make the state proud” without further due, let’s start…

Sixty years ago, in mid subterranean town far from the big city of Kota Kinabalu, a young boy called Joseph were schooling at the Missionary  School located in the rural area of Tambunan. Every morning, he woke up at 5 and prepare for a long journey to his school about 8 km on foot from his house. Those days were a little bit hard for the rural people like him which the basic necessities were really hard to get and what was needed will be served first. Just like other parents  who share the same interest in getting high-quality education from the Missionary School, Joseph father was willing to scarify anything in terms of energy and money to have a good education for his beloved son.

The journey started at 5.30am and it would take nearly two hours and a half to reach the school, with a pair of slippers, a bag, two thick books for English and Mathematic subject and a lovely and tendering big tupperware consist of Linopot, a traditional food mixed with hills vegetable and fried river fish as food provisions for a long journey prepared by his mother. A piece of advice from his father who's apparently a village leader there, Joseph still remembers the words. “ Study for the future of our family, our community, our state, and our beloved nation of Malaysia”.  His father was very strict but deep in his heart, he was the loving father.

Reaching the footsteps of the missionary school was quite nervous for Joseph, the English teacher there was just like a lion when roaring fighting in the jungle and everybody seems to be afraid of him but he was a highly respective teacher there. “Good Morning Joseph, How are you today? “ Huh.. luckily he was in a good mood that day. Joseph sat on his chair after addressing the teacher. “Today we will be discussing your ambitions and I want all of you to write a simple essay about it and read it for the class”. The class consists of ten pupils only. The huge big man as Joseph’s English teacher was Mr. Harry Gravestone from Manchester, England. He joins the Missionary school for social works at end of World War 2.

Everybody stop writing!!!  I want ask you, Joseph!! What is your ambition when you became a man? I want be a lawyer, the first lawyer from my tribe, my very own people. Wow!! “Such an ambitious boy you are,” said Mr. Harry, but nothing is impossible, anything can be achieved if it done seriously.  Joseph struggles hard for his education, from the Missionary School near to his village to the all-boys school at La-Salle Kota Kinabalu, located in the capital city of Sabah to a sponsored tertiary education at the University Of Adelaide in Australia.  Everything gain needs extra effort to be successful whereas wisdom is the best quality to make a marvelous education. The hardships to become the first tribe lawyers were achieved by Joseph and continued by many more after him.

Joseph became the first lawyer in his tribe and achieved more excellent achievements in years to go. With hardships from his own and continuing support from his parent, he deserves to be proud. So the moral of the story is, we must have a big ambition in order to become successful in our life in the future. Education is the most valuable treasure for our next generation and it will be the foundation in serving our states and country. Remember that, knowledge is power!!! That alls and Happy Independence Day for our beloved country of Malaysia. God Bless Malaysia. Thank You.

An Apple Tree and Our Parents ( Story Telling Text )

Hello and Good Morning.. My Name is Claudia Kannon from SK Naradan. Today I will tell a story a title of “ An Apple Tree and Our Parents” Hope you all enjoy it.

Once upon a time there was a huge apple tree. A little boy used to come to play near the tree. He would search for juicy apples. He would play alongside the tree and rest under the shade. The tree was overjoyed after meeting this little bundle of joy. One day, the tree was surprised to see that boy approaching it with a sad face.

“Come on little boy! Play with me," the Tree asked the boy.

“I am no longer a kid to play around tree like you," the boy scowled at the tree. “I need toys. I need money to buy toys of various designs and sizes," the boy told the tree.

“Sorry my dear boy! I do not have money to give you. But you can pick all my apples and sell them. That will give you adequate money to buy toys of your choices," replied the tree in soothing voice.

The boy grabbed all the apples and left happily. He sold the apples and got money. He bought toys of his choices.

Spring gone and autumn came by but there was no sign of the boy.

One morning, the tree saw its friend. That little boy had grown up into a big man.

“Come and play with me" the tree said.

“I cannot play. I have family now. We need a house for shelters. Can you help me?" the man replied.

“Sorry! I do not have any house. But you can chop off my branches to build your house," the tree told the man.

The man cut all the branches of the tree and left happily. The tree was glad to see his friend smiling again.

The man returned one evening to the apple tree.

“Come and play with me," the tree asked the man.

“I am getting old. I want to go sailing to relax myself. Can you give me a boat," the man asked the apple tree.

“Use my trunk to build your boat," the tree told the man.

He cut off the trunk and made a boat out of it.

He went sailing and never showed up for a long time.

The man returned after many years.

“Sorry my boy! But now I do not have anything to offer to you. I have nothing for you anymore. No more apples….No more branches…no more trunks for you to climb on’" the tree said with

a pain in its voice.

“No problem….I too do not have any teeth to bite and I am too old to climb trees," the man replied.

“I just need a place to rest after all these days," the man replied.

“Old tree roots are the best place to lean on. Come on and sit down with me and rest," the apple tree replied with a concern in its voice.

The old man sat down. The apple tree was glad and smiled with tears.

This is the story of every person. The tree is like our parents. When we were young, we could not have imagined our life without them. But as we grow up, we leave them. No matter what, parents will always be there and give us everything to make us happy. Thank You for listening. Good Day.

The Advantages and Disadvantages Of Bringing Hand phones To School.    ( Public Speaking Text )

Hello and a very good morning to the honourable judges, teachers, parents and my fellow friends. Today, on this fine day, I would like to present a public speech about ‘the advantages and disadvantages of bringing handphone to school. It is an issue where it could be implemented soon.

Before it takes place, let's look the pros and cons of this matter. Handphone, mobile phones, and tablets are becoming common in almost everywhere in our society, even now, small children have it too. Today, It has become a must have item to everyone. Even now, If I ask the audience, whether they have a handphone,  probably almost all will say yes, isn't?

Well, as for now this question exclude the students, because students are still prohibited to bring handphone to school, but if students are allow to bring handphone, most probably, all the audience in this hall, will say yes.students to bring handphone to school ? In every story, there are two sides of contracting ideas, therefore, I would like to take this opportunity, to let the audiences know the advantages and disadvantages of allowing students to bring handphone to school.

Ladies and Gentlemen, Let me start my speech by stating the first advantages of student bring phone to school that is, to make communication easier, especially between parents and their children will allow them to communicate with each other at any time. In the past, parents often never knew where their children were until they came home. With handphone, parents can check up on their kids and arrange transportation or relay important information if necessary at any time they want. Like for example, the children can tell their parents what are their activities and thus make  the parents less worry about their children whereabouts.

Secondly,  handphone can be an invaluable tool in emergency situations. For instance, if a student is severely injured or there is a crisis situation, the phones can allow students to contact authorities or anyone for help.

Thirdly, with the technology available, it can help the students to learn more. More easy access to internet, students can search information on the internet easily. But it could also be the other way around. Students use the internet to find fun instead of studying. Other is the theft issue. With more and more attractive phones available, there are good chances of phone being snatch or theft. This happen because some pupils might not be able to afford it, thus, the only way for them to have it; is by steal it. Students also can make extra money too by stealing the handphone and sell it.
Moreover, students can at times be clumsy when keeping their things. We all know that once the item is gone, it will be gone forever. The price of handphone is not cheap, and when the theft issue arise, it can cause a lot of other trouble and cause distraction in lessons. Some students that did not shut off their phone and suddenly get a phone call, will disturb the lesson in the class.

They can also play games in hiding during the lesson. With so many students in the class, teacher could overlooked these students. This is one of the instances of students misuse the purpose of handphone.By bringing handphone to school also will hinder pupils to study more as they are much more prefer to play games than to read book. They only used the privilege given for their own joy only.

Thus, the passion for learning for many students will be decreasing and this is bad because study is important in life. Only With more knowledge we could be more developed, but if these young generation do not like to study, it will hinder our progress to be more successful. I have line out the pros and cons of allowing students to bring handphone to school. Now, it is up to us to decide and choose what is the best decision on this issue.

Well then, I arrived at the end of my speech, and thus I would like to thank all for lending your ears. Therefore, I end my speech with thank you very much and good bye. Thank you.
